New health care coverage programs are available in 2014 as part of the federal health care law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). 

Open enrollment through Covered California ends March 31, 2014.

Adults who are legal residents with very low incomes who do not have health coverage may qualify for:

  • Expanded Medi-Cal program or
  • Health insurance subsidies under the Health Benefits Exchange known as "Covered California."

Adults who are currently enrolled in the County Medically Indigent Services Program (CMISP) will receive Notices of Action from the Department of Human Assistance for the new coverage programs.

The Department of Human Assistance (DHA) provides eligibility and enrollment assistance for health care programs for low income individuals.
